I promised my Grand Daughter Scarlett who calls me YaYa that I would show her what I saw yesterday when I had the day off for my Birthday.........................
Firstly when in France one sees a lot of Frogs so here are a few images of male Frogs from the Army ( the name for a group of Frogs ) I found at a local reserve, they were calling for females but make lots of mistakes trying to mate with each other.
The one above is a male edible Frog and the one below is a common brown but the two seem to be drawn to each other - you will also see a lot of bubbles around them, these are caused my the vibrations that are given off when they try to attract a mate.. Both make a different Croak and the females of that species can recognise the mid tone of its own soecies.
Yes in Europe tha call is a Croak and Ribbit in North America
Here you can see the smaller edible on the back of another male of a different species, he is soon then thrown off and is chased away.
You can see him making himself as big as possible to frighten the other male.

The two girls came with me Syrah and the new girl Francy our big black beastie.........
She is a rescue Chasse (hunting) dog who we are having to work hard with to turn her into a good girl who will do as she is told and not just eat all the things she sees or chase things she should not like our Chickens and Ducks etc.
