Fields of Blue

While out on a quick trip today I passed this field full of these wonderful flowers.............

A field of Flax and friends

Then when cutting the grass I found these after I had to move a stone.

Bird of the Day is a Grey Heron in flight, these are frequent visitors to the pond.

Birds of a feather

More of the same.................... caught the Moorhen feeding one of the chicks while the other two were off with the other parent.

Shortly after seeing the Moorhen this one flew over for a quick look, it never actually moved its wings, it just seems  to move its tail either spreading it out, pulling it in and turning it almost as though it was waggling its hips !

Hovering

Catching the thermals

Sorry I forgot the Bird of the day yesterday so here is a big one to make up for it..........

This is a Black Kite a lot larger than the little one above.

For Scarlett

This is for my granddaughter Scarlett who has been looking at this every day. When she visits us she always wants to go for a walk down the lane to feed the horses apples and carrots even if it is knee deep in snow, so here are some of the horses that are there at the moment.

These are last years fowls

This is Bobs mums baby you can see the old winter coat coming off

f
This is Bobs mum and baby, she is so gentle and talks to us, with one blue eye and one brown she is a real character.

Here you can easily see the old coat falling off,
it is soon collected by the birds for nests

Unfortunately animals in France are not always looked after to our standards
these horses always get extra food from us over the winter

The first carrot ever takes some getting used to............

Walking down the lane you can also see the meadows full of wild flowers so her are a few extra shots

with love to Scarlett and her mummy

New Arrivals

Today we have new arrivals in the pond that are real Easter Chicks they must have hatched yesterday.
So today the Bird of the Day is a Moorhen parents and chicks......................

These must be the ugliest babies but at the same time very beautiful.

We have at least three chicks as you can see here, however there are normally more
and who always get well looked after by the adults. If a second clutch is
hatched in a few weeks time these babies will help to bring them up.

You can just see an adults beak behind

Two funny little fluffy balls

Here an adult is feeding them - sorry about the brambles in front but I leave
them as protection for just such times, this way they keep safe from
predators such as Magpies etc........ I would rather have a bad shot than no babies.

They will grow up really quickly - I will try to keep you up to date.
