Common Lizard

It has been a wonderful day, slow to start but then well into the twenties when the sun came out. This then helped to get the Lizards out to bask, they love to get as flat as possible and soak up the rays.

If you look down and to the right you will just see a head sticking out of the hole they live in.

We regularly see both Common Lizards and Wall Lizards around the house and garden. The cat can be a pest trying to catch them, however they have a very good defensive mechanism, they shed their tails ( they carry on twitching like crazy and distract the attacker until the Lizard escapes ) that quite quickly grow back.

You can see on the picture below a Lizards tail growing back.

They are very fast at scuttling back into their holes so here are a couple of then being nosey.

An amazing fact about these little creatures is that they can lay eggs or have live young, in warm climates it lays eggs and were the weather is a little colder it has live babies............................

Managed to get a shot of one of the swallows today-hope you like it:
