After helping a friend this afternoon I took the dogs for a quick walk through the woods close to where they live. The following is what we found in the verges along the lane.........................
| Wild Bluebells |
| Cowslips |
| Unknown |
| Giant Cones about 250mm tall |
| A strange spiky cone I have never seen before. |
| Gorse |
| Bluebells |
These are Oak Apples caused by a chemical reaction when the Oak is injected by the larvae of the Gall Wasp. The adult wasp lays a single egg on a new developing leaf bud and the reaction then takes place as the larvae excretes its chemical in order to feed.
| Violets unusually with only one flower head |
All the time I was walking around I could see lots of spiders and things running around the leaves on the floor.
| Wild Strawberries plus guests |
Almost forgot - the Bird of the Day is a Chiffchaff.
